Forwarded from Paul Davies, Head of Doncaster Music Education Hub:
‘A MUST NOT MISS OPPORTUNITY’
Doncaster’s schools have been invited to attend what looks to be a fantastic concert at Sheffield City Hall by the Hallé. All the information including booking details can be found below.
The concert will be extremely popular so I recommend that you book early to avoid disappointment. All Home educators are welcome:
I am writing to you to let you know about the Hallé’s forthcoming schools’ concert at the City Hall in Sheffield. This will take place on Tuesday 24 February, 2015, starting at 11.45. The concert will last approximately 65 minutes. The concert is principally aimed at Key stages 2 and 3.
Further details and ticket information can be got from the City Hall’s website:
The theme, Hallé in the Sun, encompasses a number of subject areas. Not only music but science and environmental studies to name but three! The programme looks at the role of the sun in the life of our planet. From day to night, from winter to summer, from the Arctic to deserts – the sun has a role in how planet Earth functions.
Working with two of our partners, particularly P Z Cussons (Hallé Diamond Partner), every child in the audience will receive a scratch and sniff card containing four fragrances which connect to different pieces in the programme. Our other partner is the Stockport College. Students on the Film and TV Foundation Degree course will screen the orchestra so that every child can readily see the instruments as they are referred to in the presentation. We also project additional material on the screen connected to selected pieces in the programme.
The principle main aims of the concert, however, are:
1) For the children to hear and learn about the modern symphony orchestra
2) For them to learn about the instruments of the orchestra
3) To bring an audience to the Sheffield City Hall who would otherwise not get the opportunity
The programme is conducted by the Hallé’s Assistant Conductor, Jamie Phillips and is presented by Tom Redmond. Tom is the Hallé’s Second Horn but since he started presenting concerts, now regularly features on BBC Radio 3.
The Hallé is a Champion of the BBC 10 Pieces project and two of the chosen 10 pieces feature in the programme – Britten, Sea Interlude, Storm from Peter Grimes and the Berceuse and Finale of Stravinsky’s Firebird.
We would also invite schools to download the materials for ‘Your Turn To Shine’ from the City Hall website, a new song which I’ve written specially for these concerts, with lyrics by Terry Caffrey. The children will get an opportunity to sing this live with the Hallé during the concert.
I hope we can welcome lots of Doncaster school children to the Hallé! Please could you pass this information to your schools
With best wishes and thanks
