Local Activities :: January 2017

Over the summer the various meet-ups and activities tend to cease, pending the ‘academic year’ restarting in September.  Please bear in mind that some of the information below is subject to change.

Local home educators meet up in various locations around Doncaster (and beyond) and various activities are organised. We are a group with a mix of ages, backgrounds and stories to tell. Whether you already home educate or are still considering it, feel free to contact us (all comments are moderated and therefore any contact details you give us will not appear publicly on this page).

  • Parkour at Team Katalyst Rotherham. Suitable from age 5 – teens. £3.00 per person.
  • Scout Hut Social Meet £2 per family, first visit free.
  • Trampolining at Air Kings £3.50 per bouncer.

Other activities are also organised and often there are ad hoc meetings at Sandall Park, Sandall Beat Woods, etc.

Various trips and workshops are also organised, for example there is an organised visit to Roche Abbey coming up in July.  Other trips have included Conisbrough Castle, The Deep in Hull, Bolsover Castle and more!

Bristlebots with Sparkbox

A ‘brilliant’ afternoon was had by members of the Doncaster home educating community making little vibrating ‘Bristlebots’ with Sparkbox (a great not-for-profit organisation based in South Yorkshire).

From the Sparkbox events notes for the workshop:

“A Bristlebot is a lively little creature that introduces children to the concept of robotics, motors and movement (think hexbug). Using a toothbrush head, a small vibrating motor and a coin cell battery children will design, make and decorate their own buzzing Brushbot. This event is free and all parts and materials will be made available at the start of the workshop. At the end of the workshop, which will last about an hour, we will have a Brushbot Challenge.”
